Matera is a city and the capital of the Province of Matera in the region of Basilicata, in Southern Italy. With a history of continuous occupation dating back to the Palaeolithic (10th millennium BC), it is renowned for its rock-cut urban core, whose twin cliffside zones are known collectively as the Sassi.
We were very lucky to be offered the opportunity to house sit the most amazingly beautiful Villa just outside Matera. When you see the pictures you will understand what I mean about Lucky and Beautiful.. We had an amazing time, met some amazing people and cannot wait to return to Italy to explore some more.

Amazing House Sitters, Caretakers and House Management Couple
From the moment of meeting Aleta and Marcel, I knew they would be perfect for our assignment. Unfortunately the pandemic meant that we had to postpone their trip to us for two years, but they kindly kept themselves available for when life went back to normal. They have a cheery disposition and we very much enjoyed our short time with them before departing on our holiday. Since we live partly off grid, our home is complex, yet they took it all in their stride and didn't seem at all phased with the caretaking and house duties/responsibilities and pet care. We couldn't have been happier with the way they looked after everything for us. We were away for 2 months and Italy was struggling with a severe heat wave and a drought during the time we were away. They handled everything perfectly and understood the glitches that arose and dealt with them pragmatically. We were able to relax whilst we were away, knowing that they had everything under control. We returned home to happy hens; a tidy garden and a spotless house and could not have been happier. They are welcome back anytime and we highly recommend them as your sitters/caretakers/house management. A wonderful couple whom we are delighted to now call our friends. Thank you Aleta and Marcel for everything you did. We really appreciated it.
